This class was awesome! I wouldn't have been consistent if I was trying to learn myself from a book
or videos. And I realized it was fun to learn with other families who wanted to do the same thing!"

"I really enjoyed the class! All signs were appropriate for kids/parents to enhance communication.
I'm looking forward to using my signs everyday! Thank you Tara!"

I just wanted to take time to say thanks for offering such a great class. Jacob, Sophia and I have
enjoyed learning and singing together. My husband loves watching them, sign language has been
sooo useful (and amusing) :)
Our twins just turned 17 months today and I decided to write down how many words they speak out
loud, and how many they sign. So far, not many words verbally, they do lots of baby talk and maybe
6-8 words (dada, mama, a few others)....but they sign over 30! And I know it'd be more if I was
more consistent. I remember emailing you concerned that they were not signing back...well, those
days have passed, they are little sponges.
What I love about their knowing this language and where we've seen the most benefit is they tend
to calm down when they sign. Toddlers can get FRUSTRATED, as you know...."help" has been a
lifesaver. When they are screaming or upset, lots of times I ask if they need help and signing the
word calms them down. (and they do it so cute) I then help them out and life is good! Also, they
have become so polite. :) Please and thank you are words they sign frequently! The other day I
was at the shoe store, holding Jacob, paying for his shoes. We were leaving and I told Jacob "say
thank you" and he signed it and of course smiled. (The clerk was impressed as well). They just love
to communicate. :) I think Jacob's favorite sign is "car" though. He signs it ALL the time...if he
sees one, hears one, sees one on tv, his shirt, his cup... ha ha. Sophia just today copied me doing
the sneeze sign as I was singing the "meatball" song. The "again" sign -- so useful as well. When
they watch their Baby Einstein DVDs, they have favorite parts, and they'll sign "again" to me so I can
rewind it & play it again...(a little spoiled, aren't they?) ha ha. They like to sign "Again" also when
we play or when I sing to them. Finally, something Sophia does that just pulls my heartstrings is
when her brother falls or is crying, she looks at me w/these big eyes and she signs "hurt." Then
usually she'll hug him. Gets me every time.
I could go on, so many cute stories. :) I just can't imagine life any differently, all parents should do
this especially at this age when they aren't talking yet. It's so nice to have that back & forth
communication, nice for me and I'm sure it is for them as well. Very awesome.

"My 28-month old daughter Zoe has a neurological speech disorder called apraxia, and she others and
being able to sign has made her very happy. She uses her signs all of the time so have her efforts to
speak. I think she's realized that it is so much fun to communicate that it has inspired her and given
her confidence to try more.
When we started Tara's class, Zoe had about 15 signs. After only 4 weeks in the class, she is already
up to more than 40 signs! She loves to learn new ones and to practice them in class and at home,
and I can see it is really building up her confidence.
I can't recommend Smart Hands enough, especially for those parents of toddlers and preschoolers
who have speech delays or disorders. I was trying to find a signing class for more than a year with
no luck, and was very excited to see Tara's class being offered! It has been extremely valuable for us
and we look forward to learning more new signs every day."
